Abstract
Background: Anxiety isthe impactofhospitalizationexperiencedbypre-schoolchildren. The impactofthiscandisturb the developmentandthe healingprocess ofthe children.Play therapy can be applied todeceasechildren’s anxiety.Objective:Describingplay therapy as a nursing careby drawing and colouringpicturesindecreasing anxietylevel of a pre-school child being hospitalized.Method: This scientific paper is an anlytical descriptive with a case studyapproach.The subject is a five-year old child having anxiety. Data collection wasconducted through interview, observation, physical examination, and studydocumentation. The analysis and presentation of the data were done by usingnarrative techniques.Result: After applyingthe therapy,the anxiety level of the patientwas decreasing–from the very unhappy level to be happy level.Discussion: The application of play therapy by drawing and coloring pictures iseffective to lower down the anxiety level of the patient. This therapy canalsochange the patient’s behavior to be more cooperative so as to speed up the hishealing process.Conclusion: The application ofdrawing and colouring pictures as play therapycan decrease the child's anxiety level caused by hospitalization
